We’re thinking that life calls out for a cause.

People can’t avoid living for something.

As we float through stages in life we are slowly and quietly ushered into lives focused on accumulating things and maximizing comfort. Toys and couches are fine, but we’re thinking that they are not substantial enough to support the weight of life. We are looking for something with a little more meaning.

It occurs to people at different times, the realization that they want something more out of life. The question is not, do you get tired of daily routines without purpose, or tasks without lasting meaning because we all get there from time to time. The question is, how do you respond?

The downtown credo reminds us to refuse the natural tendency toward floating through life “merely existing” and challenges us to pursue lives of meaning and purpose. We’re finding that the best starting place is service. As we begin to engage the city creatively finding ways to serve, we’ll enter into a cause that can support the weight of our lives. We’ll encounter more fulfillment and see more joy.
